Landscaping Services in New Mexico

New Mexico's soil often comes with a hidden complication: many parts of the state sit over caliche, a hard, chalky layer of calcium carbonate that can form just below the topsoil and is tough to dig through and even tougher for water and roots to get past. Combined with a persistently dry, high-desert climate and municipal water restrictions in cities like Albuquerque and Santa Fe, that makes xeriscaping with native and drought-adapted plants a common choice for new landscaping rather than a traditional water-hungry lawn. Where turf is kept, it typically needs amended soil and a real irrigation plan to survive the state's low humidity and intense summer sun. Elevation also plays a role, since a yard in the mountains around Santa Fe faces a shorter growing season than one in the lower Rio Grande valley.
