The brown marmorated stink bug, the invasive species responsible for the large scale overwintering swarms familiar in mid Atlantic states, has been documented in Louisiana only in scattered locations, including northern parishes and as far south as the New Orleans area, but it has not established the kind of widespread, agriculturally damaging population here that it has further north, and it remains a minor nuisance pest in most of the state rather than a significant seasonal problem. Louisiana's own native stink bug species, including the southern green stink bug, are a more established and consistent presence, particularly as agricultural pests on vegetable and row crops, but they don't share the brown marmorated species's dramatic habit of congregating on sun warmed walls by the hundreds each fall looking for a way indoors. For most Louisiana homeowners, stink bug pressure is genuinely lower and less dramatic than what's reported in states where the invasive species has fully established, and it's honest to describe stink bug control here as an occasional, minor concern rather than a major seasonal event.
