Plumber in Oregon

Western Oregon's water is an unusual case: most of the Portland metro draws from the Bull Run watershed, and that mountain sourced water is naturally soft and mineral poor, which sounds like a good thing but actually makes it more corrosive to copper pipe than the hard water common in much of the country. Portland Water Bureau completed a major treatment upgrade in 2022 specifically to adjust the water's pH and reduce that corrosivity before it reaches homes, but the treatment only protects the mains in the street, not the copper lines already inside older houses that spent decades absorbing the effects of naturally acidic water. The result is a real pattern of pinhole leaks, small pinpoint breaches in copper supply lines that can go undetected for weeks while they slowly stain a wall or ceiling. East of the Cascades, water tends to come from groundwater sources with a very different, harder mineral profile, so the plumbing concerns genuinely shift from one side of the state to the other.
